ONE-SEMESTER STUDY AGREEMENT

Between

Chongqing University

And

The Board of Regents of The University of Wisconsin System on behalf of

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee

This Agreement is made between Chongqing University and the Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System on behalf of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (“UWM”) and is effective as of the date of its signing (the “Effective Date”).

RECITALS

1.      This Agreement establishes a student enrollment relationship that allows qualified  Chongqing University (CQU) students (“CQU Students”) from the College of Power Engineering to enroll in UWM’s College of Engineering and Applied Science’s (“CEAS”) one-semester undergraduate non-degree study program (the “CEAS Undergraduate Non-Degree Program”).

2.       After successfully completing the CEAS Undergraduate Non-Degree Program, as detailed herein, participating CQU students will receive a Bachelor’s degree from CQU.

3.       If such students then meet UWM and CEAS’ graduate admission requirements, including having an overall GPA of 3.2, they will have the option of continuing their study in the CEAS Master’s (MS) program (the “CEAS MS Program”).

For good and valuable consideration, and intending to be legally bound hereby, the parties agree as follows:

SECTION 1: OBJECTIVES AND PRINCIPLES

Through this cooperative education relationship, UWM and NU aim to train students in science and engineering.

SECTION 2: CONTENT AND MODES OF COOPERATION

2.1 CEAS Undergraduate Non-Degree Program

Upon acceptance into the CEAS Undergraduate Non-Degree Program, CQU Students will enroll in one pre-approved upper-level undergraduate or graduate course (3 credits) and one senior design course (3 credits) in CEAS.  The participating students will also do research in the faculty labs.

In order to be admitted into the CEAS Undergraduate Non-Degree Program, CQU Students must:

  • Be      approved by both CQU and CEAS;

  • Apply      and be admitted to UWM as non-degree undergraduate students;

and

  • Have      a cumulative grade point average equal to or greater than 2.33.

After successfully completing the CEAS Undergraduate Non-Degree Program, participating CQU Students will transfer credits earned to CQU and receive a Bachelor’s degree from CQU.

Integrated BS/MS option: If CQU students’ GPAs are above 3.2 when they apply, they will be invited to sign up CEAS integrated BS/MS program.  Students admitted to the Integrated BS-MS Program are allowed to count up to three graduate credits which they take at CEAS during the one-semester undergraduate study toward the requirements of the Master of Science(MS) degrees in CEAS, if these students decide to seek MS from CEAS in the future.  The students have to start their graduate study at UWM within five years after they obtain their BS degree from CQU .

2.2 CEAS MS Program

Upon completion of the CEAS Undergraduate Non-Degree Program and receipt of a Bachelor’s degree from CQU, CQU Students will have the option of continuing their study at UWM in the CEAS MS Program.

In order to be admitted into the CEAS MS Program, CQU Students must also:

  • Apply      for graduate admission to UWM and meet UWM and CEAS’ graduate admission      requirements;

  • Have      a cumulative grade point average equal to or greater than 3.2, and

  • Meet      the UWM English proficiency requirement for international graduate      students.

After successful completion of the CEAS MS Program requirements, CQU Students will receive a Master degree from UWM.

2.3 Visas and Immigration Status

Upon successful admission to the CEAS Undergraduate Non-Degree Program and/or the CEAS MS Program, UWM will provide immigration documents to CQU Students for J-1 visas. CQU Students are responsible for paying government visa application and processing fees, including the Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) fees. Each CQU Student is responsible for maintaining valid and legal immigration status for the entire duration of enrollment at UWM.

2.4 Laws and Regulations

CQU Students are subject to laws of the national, state, and local jurisdictions in which UWM is located, and are expected to comply with such laws. In addition, each CQU student who enrolls at the UWM will be expected to comply with UWM’s policies and procedures. A student who fails to maintain satisfactory academic performance or who violates UWM policies may be subject to discipline up to and including dismissal.

2.5 Insurance

CQU Students enrolled at UWM are required to enroll in, purchase, and maintain UWM student health insurance.

2.6 Withdrawal

CQU Students who withdraw from, or are unable to maintain enrollment in the CEAS Undergraduate Non-Degree Program and/or the CEAS MS Program, will be subject to UWM’s refund policy with regard to all tuition and fees.

SECTION 3: FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

No monies will be exchanged between the institutions who are parties hereto. CQU Students are responsible for paying for their own travel, room and board, and daily-living expenses in connection with this program and while at UWM. CQU Students will be required to pay non-resident tuition, UWM’s Student Segregated fee, and other applicable fees each term. The Segregated Fee entitles students to use of the Student Union, the UWM Library, the Klotsche Athletic Center, and the Norris Health Center.
