DUAL DEGREE AGREEMENT

University of   Wisconsin-Milwaukee, USA

 

 

 

 

In consideration of the promotion of educational cooperation and educational exchanges, and of the cultural relationships between the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee(UWM) and Chongqing University(CQU), this agreement has been executed between CQU and the Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System on behalf of the UWM and shall be effective on the date of full execution by both parties.

 

1. Overview: UWM agrees to accept qualified graduate students from the College of Power Engineering at CQU each academic year to pursue the Master of Science degree. Accepted students will enroll in the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) programs as regular full-time graduate students. In accordance with UWM policy, CQU students will need to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 while studying at UWM.

 

2. Admission Requirements: CQU students’ credential evaluation for UWM admission will be completed by UWM. The minimum GPA for admission is 3.2/4.0. Submission of a GRE score is not required when the GPA is above 3.2/4.0. All CQU students applying to UWM must meet the current minimum English proficiency requirements to be admitted. CQU students coming to UWM must enroll in the CEAS Masters of Science program. This does not preclude CQU students from later applying to for admission to other UWM degree programs not covered in this agreement. There is no limit to the number of CQU students who may be admitted to UWM under this agreement.

 

3. Credit Requirements: CQU students may transfer a maximum of 12 credits to UWM. The number of transfer credits will be determined by the CEAS department enrolling the CQU students. The transfer credits must be from graduate-level  or undergraduate/graduate (dual-level) courses, not from undergraduate courses. The transfer credits must have been taken no more than five years prior to the date of matriculation at UWM. The transfer credits may not have been used to attain a previously-earned degree.

 

4. Thesis vs. Non-thesis options: CQU students enrolling at UWM under this agreement may select either thesis or non-thesis option and maintain full-time status each semester.

 

5. Funding:  The participating  students will pay out-of-state tuition, unless he/she receives an assistantship. A limited number of Chancellor Awards at  $5,000 will be provided

 

6. Transcripts: At the conclusion of the CQU students’ academic program, UWM will, without charge, send an official transcript to CQU. CQU agrees that credits successfully earned at UWM will be transferable back to CQU.

 

7. Student Selection: CQU will be responsible for screening and selecting eligible students for this program. CQU will provide UWM with the names of selected students, their academic qualifications, and their planned programs of study prior to their enrollment. CQU shall provide this information to UWM no later than May 30th for the fall semester and no later than October 15th for the spring semester. To be admitted at UWM, selected CQU students must successfully apply via the regular UWM admission process.

 

8. Information Exchange: UWM and CQU shall regularly exchange their college bulletins and other information pertaining to courses, programs, and registration.

 

9. Record Keeping: Each institution shall keep a record of the CQU students sent and received under this agreement.

 

10. Tuition, Fees and Other Expenses: No monies will be exchanged between the institutions who are parties hereto. CQU students are responsible for paying for their own travel and room and board for this program. CQU students will be required to pay out-of-state tuition and UWM’s Student Segregated Fee each term, and other applicable fees each term.  CQU students will be responsible for paying any special fees (club membership, use of specialist sporting facilities, etc.) and other individual fees such as books, course materials, and excursions.

 

12. Health Insurance: All participating students from CQU will be required to carry adequate health insurance and to provide proof to UWM that their insurance will cover the costs of health care during their period of study. In the event that CQU students are unable to provide such proof, they will be required to pay for the student health insurance available through UWM.

 

13. Housing: UWM is not obligated to provide housing for any CQU student, but, if requested, will attempt to secure dormitory space for CQU students who desire such accommodations. Each CQU student is responsible for all his/her housing costs.

 

14. Visa: Each CQU student shall be responsible for obtaining a visa and related documents necessary to pursue studies at UWM.

 

15. Conduct: CQU students are subject to the same academic requirements and rules of conduct at UWM as all other regularly-enrolled students. CQU students will have the same privileges provided to other full-time UWM students during their program.

 

16. Withdrawal: In the event a CQU student withdraws or is canceled for any reason from the program of study prior to completion, the withdrawal and refund policies of UWM shall apply.

 

17. Cooperation: To the extent feasible, both universities will encourage direct contact and cooperation between their faculty members, departments, and research institutes under provisions of this agreement.

 

18. Liability: Both parties agree that CQU and UWM will be prepared to answer and defend only that responsibility and resultant legal liability, involving personal injury and property damage, which is based upon or arises from their respective negligent acts or omissions that may occur in connection with this agreement.

 

19. Term: This agreement shall in the first instance be valid and binding for a term of two years. Thereafter, this agreement shall be automatically extended by additional terms of one year; provided, however, that either party may terminate the agreement by written notice to the other party, which shall be effective after six months upon receipt of such notice by the non-terminating party. In the event this agreement is terminated, the parties will allow any students who are currently enrolled at UWM to complete their program.
